Without question, the emergence of Gidon Kremer in the West was one of the major musical events of the second half of the 20th century. Throughout his career, Kremer has tirelessly advocated and performed the work of his fellow countrymen outside of the former Soviet Union. His efforts have enriched the repertoire with some of the most affecting and beautiful music composed in the last 50 years. Kremer is also well-versed with the classical music literature of Central Europe, as he amply demonstrates in these performances from the 1977 Schwetzinger Festival. The piano is played by long-time Kremer colleague and collaborator, Oleg Maisenberg.

This is the second CD from the Schwetzinger Festival Edition. For this series only original source tapes were used for the digital transfer – not transfers from vinyl.
