The crossover programs of Cathy Berberian were never compiled by marketing strategies but based on a natural musical variety. From Claudio Monteverdi up to the Beatles, her voice did them all justice. The singer of Armenian descent, who realized many projects together with her husband, the composer Luciano Berio, acquired the nickname “serial Callas” in the area of contemporary music. Due to her outstanding talent for languages she also became one of the leading interprets of folk songs, which is impressively demonstrated by these SWR recordings from 1979.
